Tom is the founder of the Band Room and has been teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele for ten years. In that time he has had hundreds of students and has given over 15,000 lessons. Tom was born and raised in Westerly, as were several of the Band Room's faculty. Go Bulldogs!

Jennifer E. Armstrong received a dual master’s degree in Choral Conducting Performance and Music Education from the University of Rhode Island, and also a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University for Connecticut. Mrs. Armstrong has enjoyed being on both sides of stage performance.  She is part of the Equity Membership Candidate Program and most recently has performed in Theatre by The Sea as Sister Sofia in their production of the Sound of Music.  Locally, she has performed many operatic supporting and ensemble roles for Opera Providence.  She is currently the Chorus Director at Cole Middle School, the cantor for St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Narragansett, and has a private studio of voice students through the Band Room in Westerly.  Periodically she advises talent for pageantry and most recently had students who have gone on to win the title of Miss Rhode Island. Mrs. Armstrong lives in Narragansett with her husband and two daughters.

Brian Lindeborg is a 1999 graduate of Stonington High School and a member of the hard-hitting Granite City Rock Band. His influences are widely varied but include Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stevie Wonder, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Warren Haynes, and David Gillmore. Brian has played in projects with several other members of the Band Room Faculty including a short-lived Alanis Morrisette tribute band, Young&Underpaid, with Band Room founder Tom Foley. Yes, we did. And yes, we were. Isn't it ironic that Brian is now a resident ripper at the band room? Welcome aboard Brian!

Robert has been playing and teaching the pipes for many years. He played for several years with pipe and drum bands in New York, the Clan Gordon Highlanders (Glen Cove, NY) and Siol Na h'Eireann Pipes & Drums (Suffolk Co., NY). He has competed at Eastern United States Pipe Band Association events with pipe and drum bands and as a solo piper. In addition to being a top-notch piper, Robert is also an exceptional guitarist and also plays the Viheula, a traditional Spanish stringed instrument.

Eric Pettine has been a professional trombonist for over 40 years and teaches tuba, trombone, baritone horn, and beginner piano. Eric received a bachelor's degree in music education from Rhode Island College and a Master of Music degree from the University of RI. He has taught music to students (including several of the Band Room's faculty) in the Westerly, Coventry,  Cumberland, and Warwick public School systems. Eric has performed with the RI Philharmonic Brass Quintet and Orchestra, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, Theatre by the Sea, among many other venues. 

 

Ryan "Pic" Piccolo teaches saxophone, piano, flute, and clarinet and holds a degree in Music Education from the University of Rhode Island. Kyle Rathbun is a multi-instrumentalist whose work includes live performance, studio recording, and writing/ composition. He has a passion for music, and he considers himself a life-long student of his craft. Kyle loves helping others find and develop their voice on their instrument and reach their own personal goals. Kyle has performed with a variety of groups, stemming genres from rock and pop to blues and jazz to country, folk, and classical.

Ken Serio is a born-and-raised local and started playing the drums at 11 years old. For twenty three years Ken studied with the great Joe Morello of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" as well as Kenwood Dennard and Zak Danziger in New York. Over the last few decades, Ken has worked as a studio musician and performed internationally with the likes of Alicia Keys, Billy Joel, and Joey Ramone. Formerly of Rick's Music World in Raynham, MA since 2002, Bill now calls Westerly home and is excited to be setting up shop at the Band Room! In addition to teaching full time, Bill also plays with  several local bands  including the James Road Band,  Mindset, and Never Enuff.

WILLIAM GROTH is a professional performer, instructor, and accompanist based in Southeastern Connecticut.  He studied at the Berklee School in Boston and continues to perform and record the standards from the American Songbook, with a new solo piano CD to be released in June of 2019.  A collection of improvisations based on folk-based hymns and spirituals titled "The Piano and The Spiritual" was released in 2017. He has been the pianist at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in New London since 2006.

Ryan Peterson holds a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies from The University of Rhode Island where he studied under Grammy nominated guitarist/composer Jay Azzolina. During his undergrad, he performed in jazz combos under the direction of Jay Azzolina, trumpeter Mark Berney, and saxophonist Bill Jones. Ryan originally became interested in guitar from listening to rock, blues, and metal music, but recently his main interest is in jazz. Since graduation, Ryan has kept himself busy by maintaining a roster of students and by attending live jam sessions at venues in the area.

Joy received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Rhode Island in 2002. She has been teaching private voice to children and adults for over 20 years. Joy has also been a vocal coach and musical director for various musical theater productions throughout New England. In addition to teaching, Joy enjoys singing on stage in both solo and ensemble roles with a concentration in operatic performance. Joy resides in Bradford with her husband and four girls.
